I’m so glad summer has arrived in Colorado. It was definitely a long winter for the non-skiiers like me who look forward to hiking. While some trails are still snowed in, Danelle, Mike and I found a fun hike to Geneva Mountain with little snow on AllTrails.

Several years ago, I hiked Three Mile Creek Trail on a cold October day with my friends Cat and Chas. It had iced the previous evening, so we spent most of our time snapping photos of cool icicles hanging off the bridges and didn’t make it very far.

Another day of the long holiday weekend equals another hike! Danelle was game to hike with me on Sunday too, and we decided on Green Mountain Trail in Pike National Forest.
Strangely, we’ve hiked all over this area, including miles of the Colorado Trail, and didn’t know it was here. We were the first to arrive in the dirt parking lot off Forest Road 550 at 8:30 am. The trailhead parking is near Buffalo Creek Campground and has pit toilets.
Being July 4th weekend, the area was loaded with campers, so we weren’t sure how busy the normally lightly trafficked trail would be.

What better way to spend a long holiday weekend, but to hike. The Rockies have gotten so much snow this year that hiking has been long awaited.
On Friday, my friend, Danelle, and I hiked in Lory State Park near Horsetooth Reservoir in Fort Collins. Tons of trails criss-cross one another to provide countless options of hikes in the park.

I signed up for my second Trusted Housesitters gig. This time it was much closer to home, in Grand Lake, not across the ocean in France for my farm stay. Grand Lake, located on the west side of Rocky Mountain National Park, is just a 2-hour drive from Denver.

While most people have heard of Nashville, Tennessee, I imagine not as many have heard of Nashville, Indiana. Nashville, Indiana is a small artist community located in Brown County. A few years ago, Nashville was named as one of the 20 Best Small Towns to Visit by Smithsonian Magazine.
I stumbled across the town nine years ago during my year-long road trip around the USA and have wanted to return to stay at the nearby Story Inn which is rumored to be haunted. Finally, I made my return trip after going to Kentucky for the Derby.
I arrived Sunday night and stayed through Tuesday. Monday and Tuesday are very quiet days in Nashville. Some of the restaurants and museums are closed. I liked the quaintness, but for those who want more activity, visit on a weekend, as Nashville is a popular tourist destination and hopping.

Saba is a Dutch island in the Caribbean Sea. Only five square miles with a population of 2,000, this small island is known as the Unspoiled Queen. With little commercialization and no cruise ships, Saba is a tropical paradise!
Saba was discovered by Christopher Columbus in 1493 but he did not consider the mountainous landscape important enough to colonize. From its discovery until 1816, Saba changed hands many times…from the Spanish, to the French, and to the Dutch who took final possession.
The island includes four small settlements, the world’s shortest commercial runway (1,200 feet), the tallest mountain in the Netherlands which is the potentially active volcano Mt. Scenery, and world class SCUBA diving.

A few years ago, I heard about an island called Saba in the Caribbean that had good SCUBA diving. I mentioned it to my dive buddies Rootie and Julie, and soon we ended up on a girls’ trip diving in Saba. I didn’t know, however, that there are a lot of opportunities for hiking in Saba. How perfect, we turned our dive vacation into a hiking trip too!
While we spent the mornings diving, we spent many of our afternoons as well as our last day on the island exploring. As such we got to hike many trails in Saba.

The top two things to do in Boquete on Trip Advisor are to hike Sendero Los Quetzales and Tres Casacadas (Three Waterfalls) Trails. The Three Waterfalls Trail is also called the Lost Waterfalls Trail.
It is highly recommended to take a guide for Sendero Los Quetzales which also requires a 4-wheel drive vehicle and there is a two-person minimum. As such, just to take a hike was going to cost $190. As an experienced hiker with an all-wheel drive car, that seemed a little ridiculous to me.
