Brainard Lake Recreation Area

I have been wanting to hike to Lake Isabelle for a long time.  For some reason, however, I only think about it in the winter time when the gate is closed which requires many extra miles along the road.  Finally, I timed my hike to coincide with opening day at Brainard Lake Recreation Area.

HAPPY HIKING!

Roadtrip to the Rockies: Lake Katherine

Sometimes in my blog posts I flip flop between stories and information.  I find when I google something, I am usually looking for an answer to a question, thus I try to write informatively.  Other times, however, the experience was just too good to pass up.  Our hike to Lake Katherine was just that.  We laughed so hard, we were likely a nuisance to anyone seeking solitude.  Soooo sorry to you folks!

Roadtrip to the Rockies: Stone Mountain

I changed up my hiking scenery this past week.  Instead of heading toward the Rocky Mountain foothills near Bailey, I ventured toward the foothills near Loveland, Colorado.  Here, I hiked the trail to Stone Mountain.

Roadtrip to the Rockies: Bruno Gulch Trail

I just recently posted about South Park Trail and the hike I completed the following day, Bruno Gulch, intersects this trail at a location farther south.  That tidbit of information isn’t terribly important if you are only looking for a short and easy hike, but if you are looking for more distance, these two trails may be hiked together as a point-to-point.

Four Days in Munda

Solomon Islands

After four weeks of island hopping in the South Pacific, I met my friends, Julie and Dustin, in the Solomon Islands.  Because I had planned so much of my first four weeks in American Samoa, Samoa, Tonga, and Vanuatu, I relied heavily on Julie and Dustin for planning in the Solomons.  As a result, I knew very little about the country which gained its independence from the United Kingdom in 1978.

The sovereign state includes six major islands and over 900 smaller ones.  During our visit to the Solomon Islands, we began in its capital, Honiara, and traveled west through the Central Province to the Western Province with the Taka dive boat.  Ultimately, we ended our journey in Munda.
